Stroudley to Billinton 6W Brake Conversion Kit.  4mm

This etch enables the conversion of Roxey’s kit 4C66, D46 Stroudley 6W Luggage Brake Van to the later D76/232 Billinton version with its higher roof line. Panelled duckets were introduced in 1911, when the duckets of most brake vehicles were rebuilt to reduce the over carriage width from 9ft 2ins to 8ft 9ins.

Built in December 1871, it was known as ‘The Old Royal Saloon’. Originally numbered 433, it was down-graded to Third class and renumbered as 616 in June 1920.  It would have been available for use as a normal family saloon. When new it was oil lit, but in 1895 or shortly after it was converted to gas lighting.

These were built during 1881-2, to the common 26ft and 4-wheel format of the period.  They were numbered 429 to 434 inclusive. Withdrawals took place between 1906 and 1912.
