They were the precursor to the famous “Gladstone” class, and in the ‘Richmonds’ Stroudley made some significant changes to his previous designs. These applied to details such as front buffer beam height and depth, a wider footplate, a multi-valve crosshead pump, steel frames instead of iron, and steam lubrication to the driving wheel flanges.
All were outshopped with Stroudley outside frame tenders, and later all were given the inside frame version, as issued to the Gladstone class, and the later batch of D2’s.
No 208 “Richmond” with the unusual brake gear unique to this member of the class. This is included as an option in the kit.
The kit built as 612 ‘Hartington’ in full Stroudley Passenger livery. Tender produced by Albion Models.
Model owned by Raphael Whittle, of the Brighton Circle, and reproduced by kind permission.
Model built by the late Adrian Prescott.
